Did Meghan King’s IVF give her depression?

The reality star had shared her journey through the first cycle of IVF onscreen. She said that it gave her “the worst depression of my life”.

The second time around, she found it easier as she had her support system —Aspen and pet pooch, Girly Girl. Why did she get depression the first time?

Meghan King has talked openly about struggling emotionally during IVF, but she didn’t exactly say IVF directly “caused” her depression.

What she described was more like a combination of:

  1. infertility stress
  2. repeated IVF pressure
  3. hormone treatments
  4. emotional exhaustion
  5. feeling isolated during the process

She said IVF affected her mental health heavily and made her feel emotionally overwhelmed at times. She also talked about how lonely infertility can feel, especially when treatment doesn’t go as planned.

A lot of women actually describe something similar during IVF. The hormonal shifts, constant appointments, uncertainty, and disappointment can seriously impact mood and mental health.

What stood out in her story was how honest she was about the emotional side of fertility treatment instead of pretending IVF was just a simple medical process.

Meghan King’s IVF journey was not easy but knowing that she was finally pregnant made it all worth the effort and pain. Meghan and then husband, Jim Edmonds, underwent two cycles of IVF.

The reality star had shared her journey through the first cycle of IVF onscreen. She said that it gave her “the worst depression of my life”.

The second time around, she found it easier as she had her support system —her daughter Aspen and pet pooch, Girly Girl. The couple waited for the baseball season to end before they start the treatment, so Jimmy could be present around her.

“I felt like I handled this IVF much more in stride,” Meghan wrote. “I’m not sure if it’s because I knew what to expect or if maybe my body was used to the hormones, but it was easier. I was also armed with the emotional mindset to be so much healthier this time around whereas last time I was surrounded by the stress of filming RHOC (which is VERY stressful and emotionally taxing).”

Luckily, the second cycle worked and in 2018, the couple welcomed twin baby boys, whom they named Hart and Hayes.
